Scheduling
4.1 Schedule Information
All Intramural Sports schedules (regular season and playoffs) are available and updated on the intramural sports website.
4.2 Forfeits and Defaults
Forfeits
Intramural sports aim to involve all eligible OSU participants. Forfeits deprive participants of involvement and the opportunity to play. The following procedure is designed to eliminate forfeits and encourage involvement.
- Game time is forfeit time
-
- A five-minute grace period is allowed if at least one player is checked in at game time.
- The supervisor's watch is the official time.
-
- Sportsmanship Rating: A forfeited contest results in a rating of one (1) for the forfeiting team.
- Forfeit Fees:
-
- Team sports: $30 forfeit fee charged to the team captain's Bursar account.
- Individual/dual sports: $15 forfeit fee charged to the participant's Bursar account.
- Forfeit Charges: Fees are assessed regardless of the cause (e.g., cancellations, sportsmanship issues, illegal players).
-
Defaults
A team may default a game (no forfeit fee will apply) by requesting to cancel their game on IMLeagues. Captains may do so by visiting the game page and clicking the “Cancel Game” button. Default requests must be submitted prior to 4 p.m., the day of the game or Friday for all weekend contests.
NOTE: Completing the Default Form after 4 p.m. on Fridays will result in a forfeit for any/all weekend games.
Teams that do not meet the minimum player requirement prior to 4 p.m. the day of their scheduled contest, or Friday for weekend games, will receive a default loss.
Teams with two forfeits, two defaults, or a combination will be dropped from the sport season, marked as BYE-OUT. The Competitive Sports Office will try to rematch teams, but if not possible, the scheduled opponent receives a win.
Members of a dropped team cannot join another team, except if the team had no prior contests.
Forfeit and Default Point Differential
In the event of a forfeit/default, the following scores will be assessed:
Sport | Point Differential |
---|---|
3v3 Basketball | 10 – 0 |
4v4 Sand Volleyball, 4v4 Volleyball & 6v6 Volleyball | 2 - 0 |
4v4 Flag Football & 7v7 Flag Football | 19 - 0 |
5v5 Basketball | 20 – 0 |
5v5 Indoor Soccer | 10 – 0 |
9v9 Soccer | 5 – 0 |
10v10 Softball | 10 - 0 |
Ultimate Frisbee | 5 - 0 |
Individual/Dual Sports | 1 – 0 or dependent on sport |
4.3 Playoffs
At the end of the regular season, each league sport has a single elimination tournament. To be eligible for playoffs, teams must:
- Have fewer than two defaults/forfeits
- Maintain a 3.0+ Sportsmanship Rating
- Win at least one game (for select sports)
Teams must keep a 3.0+ Sportsmanship Rating throughout the season to qualify and stay in playoffs. Playoff games may not be scheduled on the same day/time as regular season games and may require multiple games in a week.
The Competitive Sports Office may assign teams to competitive or recreational brackets based on regular season records. Teams can add players during playoffs if they are not on another team in the same league.
Playoff schedules can be modified with agreement from both teams and approval from the Competitive Sports Office. Teams with scheduling conflicts can propose rescheduling through IMLeagues, subject to approval. If not possible, they can add players or default the match.
During playoffs if a game reaches half-time/midway point of the contest and is then ended due to weather/field conditions it will be declared a completed game with the winning team advancing. Games that do not reach half-time/midway point will be rescheduled starting at the point of interruption. The midway point determined by the Competitive Sports staff based off specific sport timing rules.

4.4 Protests
Protests ensure equal opportunity for victory and must be filed by the team captain with the Competitive Sports supervisor immediately when a question arises.
Protests are accepted for the following:
- rule interpretations
- policies and procedures
- player eligibility
Protests are not accepted for the following:
- judgment calls
Protests are settled on-site if possible and recorded on a protest form. The game continues under protest, and the Competitive Sports Office reviews the form to ensure the correct ruling.
If the ruling was incorrect, the game is replayed from the protest point; otherwise, the ruling stands. Special arrangements for replaying games are made by the Competitive Sports program, and all decisions are final.
Regular Season and Playoffs, Player Eligibility Protest
Eligibility protests must be submitted in writing (Protest Form, Staff Report, email, etc.) to the Competitive Sports Office by 12 p.m. the following business day.
- If submitted before a game and the player is confirmed ineligible: The player and
captain will be notified and the participant is not allowed to compete.
-
- If the player participates, the game is a forfeit.
-
- If submitted at game site but eligibility is unclear: The game proceeds under protest.
Captains will be informed of protest and players involved. The player's eligibility
will be reviewed and a decision made by the Competitive Sports Office prior to their
next game.
-
- If the player chooses not to play, the result of the game will stand.
- See Contests with Ineligible/Illegal Participation for full outline.
-
- If the protest is upheld: The team in compliance will be awarded the win
-
- If in playoffs, the team in compliance will advance.
-
- Note: Protests are not accepted after the championship games are completed.
