Club Sports FAQs

  • What are Club Sports?
    • OSU club sports are a fun way to compete against other colleges and universities in various sports. Club sports are recognized student organizations at OSU that can be competitive, recreational, instructional and/or social.
    • OSU club sports differ from varsity athletics in that they are not scholarship based. They are responsible for their own administration, expenses and management. Club sports are required to have a faculty/staff advisor and are responsible for scheduling their own practices, games and tournaments.
  • I’m interested in joining a club sport, how do I find out more about them?

There are over 40 sport clubs associated with Oklahoma State University! You can find a list of these clubs and/or join a club here. Once you have joined, you can contact one of the club officers by finding their information on the DSE website.

  • I'm interested in joining a club sport but haven't played the sport before. Can I still join?

Yes! The Club Sports program requires teams to include anyone interested in the club regardless of experience level. All students can participate in club sports, however, clubs may decide to select a “competitive” or “travel” team, within the club. This means that certain players from the club may travel to special events or tournaments, while other club members might participate in practices and local events.

  • I’ve found a club sport I would like to join. What do I do next?

First step is to join the club you are interested in here. Once you have joined, you can contact one of the club officers by finding their information on the DSE website

  • How much does it cost to be a member of a club?

Each club is required to have club dues. The dues vary from club to club, year to year and club budget (ex: trips out of state, activity which requires flights, equipment purchases, etc.). Contact the club directly for more information about club dues.

  • I don’t see a club that I’m interested in. Can I start my own club?

Any individual may start a new club. Visit How to Create a New Club to find helpful resources and steps to begin the process.

  • If I’m a member of a club, can I still participate in intramural sports?

Yes! Club Sport members are allowed to participate in intramural sports leagues and tournaments. In the intramural sports activities that have the same (or similar) associated club sport, there are restrictions on the number of club sport participants from that sport that can be on the roster.

    • Intramural league sports: limit of two club sport members on an intramural sports team in the associated sport.
    • Intramural individual/dual sports: only one club sport member is allowed per team.
