Swimming Procedures & Rules
Procedures & Rules
Swimming will occur at the Colvin pool for the duration of Camp Colvin. Sandals or open-toed shoes are to be worn in the locker room and pool area only. Children will be able to change into their swimsuits before swimming.
If your child wears their swimsuit to camp, please have them bring their change of clothes to get into after swimming. Wet swimsuits are not advisable for children to stay in all day, due to health concerns. Also, we suggest a plastic bag for wet swimsuits is provided, so everything else in their bag does not get wet after swim time.
Campers will be able to change clothes in the locker room of the Colvin. The locker rooms will be shut down, and only campers and camp staff will be allowed in the locker rooms during the times campers are changing clothes. Once campers are done changing, camp counselors will go through the locker room and make sure all campers are changed.
If a camper requires assistance while changing clothes to or from the pool, admission into Camp Colvin program permits camp counselors of the same gender to assist with the camper changing clothes.
The supervised swim tests consist of swimming one lap in lane line without any assistance from lifeguard, lane line or wall, and tread water for one minute. Supervision of the campers will be increased during the swim times due to lifeguards on duty.
Swimming Ability
Camp registration requires parents/guardians to acknowledge the swimming ability of their camper.
- Non-swimmer: unable to swim, needs to be with a counselor at all times.
- Beginner/Intermediate: able to swim length of the pool, tread water, and be supervised from the side.
- Experienced Swimmer: able to swim in all areas of the pool, history on swim teams, lessons, etc.
All campers will still be supervised regardless of experience by camp staff and lifeguards on duty.
Swim Test
Swim testing will be conducted every first day of camp the campers are scheduled to swim to ensure counselors are aware of your camper's swimming abilities. The swim test is mandatory for your child’s safety.
Green Wristband
If they complete the whole swim test without struggling. Tell the patron they can swim anywhere independently, including the inner Vortex.
Red Wristband

Campers will not be permitted to shower following pool time unless required by parent/physician. A note from the parent/physician is necessary to allow a camper time to shower. Campers that need to utilize the shower must leave the pool 15 minutes early.
