"Operation Clean Up" a success!
|
On July 1, 2008, a group of volunteers met to pick up cigarette butts across the Oklahoma State University campus. The purpose was to help beautify the campus, while at the same time create awareness for the new tobacco free policy. As a result of this one hour project, the following occurred:
- Approximately 26,667 cigarette butts were collected (over 10 pounds!)
- One cigarette reduces life by 11 minutes; therefore, this number translates to 293,337 minutes of life lost on campus.
- Assuming it takes 7 minutes to smoke one cigarette, this number translates to 186,669 minutes or 3111 hours spent smoking.
- Each pack of cigarettes smoked costs the nation more than $7 in medical care and lost productivity. Based on this average, the number of butts collected cost the nation $9331 in healthcare and productivity.

Breakfast
Skipping breakfast can lead to decreased concentration, increased fatigue, and intense hunger. It can also trigger
overeating at lunch. If you leave the house in a hurry each morning, try bringing portable snacks to enjoy on the way
to work. Items like a banana, a bagel or even dry cereal in a small baggie can supply needed energy.
