1.1 Overview of Competitive Sports

Competitive Sports at OSU fosters a long-standing tradition of competition through intramural and club sports within the Department of Wellness. Since its inception the late 1960s, intramural sports have engaged over 5,000 annual participants across 50+ activities, while the club sports program supports 40+ active clubs with 1,600+ members.

1.2 Division of Student Affairs and the Department of Wellness

1.3 The Spirit of Competition

Team sports stem from the fundamental human desire to play, where the joy of participation, fitness, and friendship outweigh winning or losing. True competition relies on mutual respect and cooperation with opponents, not rule manipulation or poor conduct. Upholding integrity, fair play, and concern for safety honors this spirit, making lifelong memories and values more meaningful than any outcome.

1.4 Philosophy

Club sports at Oklahoma State University (OSU) are welcoming and enhance members' experiences by offering leadership opportunities.

Club sports are recognized student organizations of Oklahoma State University.

Governed by the OSU Club Sport Council and supported by the Competitive Sports Office, club sports thrive on student leadership, interest, and involvement. The Competitive Sports Office acts as a liaison between the university administration and the clubs, ensuring smooth operations and support.

1.5 Purpose

The purpose of the Club Sport Handbook at Oklahoma State University is to provide guidelines and resources for the effective management and operation of club sports. It ensures that all clubs adhere to university policies, promotes student leadership, and supports the overall success and sustainability of the club sports program.

1.6 Integrity and Sportsmanship

It is the responsibility of each club member to conduct its club program in a manner that promotes the ideals of higher education, human development and integrity. All individuals associated with the Oklahoma State Club Sports program should adhere to such fundamental values as respect, fairness, civility, honesty, responsibility, academic integrity, ethical conduct and rules of their governing body.

1.7 Club Control

It is the responsibility of each club member to monitor and control its club while ensuring compliance with this handbook and their respective governing body. It is the responsibility of each member to report all rule violations to the Competitive Sports Office in a timely manner and to cooperate fully with efforts from all parties. Responsibilities of club control rests within the club presidents and officers.

1.8 Participation in Club Sports

Participation in club sports is open to all students, faculty, and staff, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected status, in accordance with federal, state and institutional policies.
