Health Education in the Classroom

Wellness State is a peer health education program designed to integrate technology with health education in the classroom.
The modules are created specifically for freshman, and content is consistent with student health issues and concerns on the OSU campus and areas of focus outlined by the Centers for Disease Control.

The Wellness State Impact

"Each year at the start of First Year Seminar, I ask students to identify, on a notecard, what their biggest fear, concern or worry is as they start college. Over the last few years, it is obvious that students always include becoming overwhelmed, stressed out and/or concerned about how they will manage anxiety in a new place. Because of this, I started asking the Department of Wellness to provide a presentation on tips and resources.
For students, the impact is realizing that everyone struggles from time to time and that there are ways to deal with those struggles, including having someone to support them and talk to them on campus. I also hear our student mentors that are in class tell their small groups that they started using services provided on campus, which also makes the new freshmen feel more comfortable doing so as well."
