Tech the Halls with AT (New Assistive Technology)
Every year at this time, Oklahoma ABLE Tech updates this feature with new assistive technology devices that can make good gifts -- regardless of the time of year! ABLE Tech's Device Demonstration and Short-Term Loan Program offers Oklahoma residents with disabilities, their family members, and the professionals that support them, the opportunity to "try before you buy" trials of over 2,000 assistive devices.
Below, we're promoting a few products that may appeal to a child or adult you know.
HowdaHUG Seat (Howda.com). Designed for "fidgety kids" who present a need for deep sensory input to find focus, calm and containment. Help your sensory-seeker focus during story time, circle time or any learning time with HowdaHUG! The chair is designed to cradle the body with cocoon-like support and provide a calming hug and soothing rocking. Straps can be adjusted to provide additional pressure and security.
It is perfect for offering a safe, grounded feeling and can be used at home, in school, at the park, indoors, outdoors. The seat is designed for toddler and preschool aged children, watch as they giggle and smile when it rocks. It offers support as well as freedom of movement. It gives a sense of the child’s own space.
Braille - Low Vision Monopoly Game (Maxi-Aids) This 20 inch square game board has a special molded overlay in braille along the perimeter of each game space so you can identify all the spaces and locations, allowing everyone to enjoy this Braille and Low Vision Monopoly game.
The game has extra-large sized cards with braille and large print and comes complete with braille dice, cards, money and game board.
Sit N Gym Plus 26" Ball with pump (Gymnic). The Sit 'N' Gym plus ball, made of super strong latex-free vinyl material, has little feet to prevent it from rolling away when used as a sitting ball.

Watchminder3 (Watchminder) The WatchMinder is a simple wristwatch that can easily be programmed to set up vibrating reminders throughout one’s day. The WatchMinder is an ideal assistive tool to help the elderly, the hard-of-hearing, or those with chronic disease comply with their medication regiments. The WatchMinder uses a vibration system that is easy to feel and discreetly alerts the user to take a specific medication or perform a specific task.
Sci-Voice Talking Labquest 2 (Independence Science) Students who are visually impaired can now independently access high school and college level science lab experiments with the Talking LabQuest 2.
LabQuest 2 is an interface used to collect sensor data with its built-in graphing and analysis application. The large, high-resolution touch screen makes it easy and intuitive to collect, analyze, and share data from experiments. Its wireless connectivity encourages collaboration and personalized learning. The Sci-Voice Talking LabQuest provides speech output for accessibility for individuals who are blind or visually impaired.
