The Department of Wellness is one of the largest student employers on campus. We have a wide range of positions available each semester: grounds staff, operations staff, intramural officials and staff, group fitness instructors, personal trainers and more.

Intramural Sports

Officials/Check-In Staff

Officials

Individuals with an extensive playing background are encouraged to become an intramural official, but previous officiating experience is not required. Mandatory training clinics prior to each team sport covers rules, mechanics and procedures. You may officiate and continue to play intramural sports. Opportunities available include officiating Basketball, Flag Football, Soccer, Softball, Floor Hockey, 2-ball Indoor Soccer, Team Handball and Volleyball.

Check-In Staff

Work study students only. Position will require training and strict attention to detail, no prior experience required. As check-in manager you will have to check-in players for their intramural games & swipe ID cards for entry into the Annex. Must have excellent hand writing, customer service skills, and be able to work outside on fields.

Office Staff

Office Staff – Office duties such as filing, greeting customers, answering phones, and some paperwork.

Office hours are M-F 8a-8p (varying shifts)

Aquatics

Lifeguard

Lifeguards work at both the Outdoor Leisure pool (typically opened from Spring Break to Fall Break) and the Indoor Pool (opened year round). Must be a certified lifeguard, preferably through American Red Cross.

Swim Instructor

Swim Instructors will teach private and group lessons at our Outdoor Leisure Pool. Instructors will work May thru August, with the possibility of staying on during the school (No certification required!).

Fitness & Wellness

Wellness Internships

Internships are available to students with backgrounds in exercise science, health/wellness, health promotion, physical education, marketing/advertising, nutrition, computer science, or student personnel.

Interns will gain experience and have responsibilities in the following areas: fitness testing, facilities operations, exercise prescription, health promotion, exercise program orientation, wellness counseling, exercise supervision, marketing, development and implementation of special programs, organization and distribution of health education materials

Personal Trainer

Department of Wellness Personal Trainers will be expected to create, maintain and modify top-notch program designs by creating work-out programs, completing appropriate assessments, goal setting and education of proper use of fitness equipment. They will be expected to demonstrate excellent customer service by displaying the following aspects in training: Motivational skills/empathy, confidence, personal interaction and professional attire. Personal Trainers are required to have a Nationally Recognized Certification (ACSM, ACE, NASM, etc) and a Current CPR/AED Certification. The ACE Preparation Course offered by OSU and First Aid Certification is recommended.

Grounds/Maintenance

Camp Redlands Seasonal Maintenance

Camp Redlands hosts several camps during the summer months. OSU’s Camp Cowboy is our primary camp, but we host a variety of community and church camps as well. In the time between scheduled groups we need a motivated crew to get camp ready for the next group’s arrival. The crew is also needed occasionally while the groups are at camp to maintain the grounds. The typical work week will be from Wednesday through Sunday, but this is subject to change as needed. Applicants must have reliable transportation, Camp Redlands is 12 miles from the main campus in Stillwater.

Job Duties-
• Mowing and maintaining the grounds at camp and at the challenge course
• Cleaning and stocking the Bathhouse twice daily during scheduled camps
• Cleaning cabins between scheduled camps
• Report any broken or damaged property to the Coordinator of Outdoor Adventure
• Maintain a clean and litter-free environment
• Other duties as assigned

There may be additional duties related to routine maintenance and/or Camp Redlands improvements, as decided by the Coordinator of Outdoor Adventure.

Pay Rate- $8.25/hour

Operations

Operations Staff

Operations Staff employees are responsible for the operations of the Colvin Recreation and Seretean Wellness Center. You must be an OSU-Stillwater student and be adult CPR/AED certified (may be obtained once hired). Job responsibilities include:

• Serve as a resource by providing accurate information regarding recreation related programs and facilities.
• Maintain a positive, professional, approachable, and cooperative attitude.
• Serve as a positive representative of the department on and off the clock.
• Communicate and consistently enforce university, departmental, and facility policies.
• Implement emergency procedures that include care for an injured individual, initiation of our emergency action plan, and notification of appropriate university authorities if appropriate.
• Verify authenticity of patrons authorized to use the facilities.
• Launder fitness towels and other items.
• Control inventory of equipment ensuring accuracy of equipment dispensed and returned.

IT Student Employee

Information Technology employees at the Department of Wellness assist with day to day website, server, and workstation support and management under the supervision of the IT coordinator. Successful candidates will support the professional and operational staff of the department with their IT needs along with assisting in coordination with vendors and campus IT services.  They must have a passion for IT and understand that the position has a lot of variability requiring and building upon a general skill set.

IT Technician duties involve day to day troubleshooting and repair, and assisting in complex IT projects under the supervision of the IT Coordinator. Web development, server administration, networking, and IT security experience are all important things that can be developed in this position. We would prefer you have an existing background in working on and maintaining computer systems.
