Mission & History of the Seretean Wellness Center

Our Mission:

Help people achieve a balance of physical and mental health.

History:

Former President Jimmy Carter dedicated the Wellness Center on December 6, 1990. The 25,000 square foot Center opened in January 1991 with a staff of six full-time and three graduate students. Today, the Center boasts 21 full-time, six graduate/intern students, and 50 part-time student employees. In 2000, the Center completed a 6,000 square foot addition to house the Sports Physical Therapy program and expanded conference center.

The Center was re-named on December 6, 2000 to honor of our benefactor, Dr. M.B. "Bud" Seretean, in recognition of his constant encouragement and sustaining financial support. Dr. Seretean is a champion of wellness and embodies it in every aspect of his life and his example illustrates the far-reaching benefits of a healthy lifestyle.

The Seretean Wellness Center operates 17 programs at an annual budget of $1.5 million. The Center also directs seven grants/contracts with a total annual budget of $2.5 million. The Center is funded by fees for service, student activity fees, alumni donations, and employee benefit contributions. It is considered an auxiliary enterprise and is in the Division of Student Affairs.
